Are you a good communicator? Are you interested in facilitating greater community involvement in decision-making? We are looking for a Communications and Engagement Coordinator to join our team!

As a member of the Communications and Engagement team, your role will be to engage stakeholders throughout the project, explain the issues and options in terms everyone can understand, and seek community input into how the issues facing the lagoons in Muri and Aitutaki can be best addressed.

This is a fantastic opportunity contribute to a challenging and interesting project that has important implications for the future of the country. You will play a key role in helping to identifying an appropriate solution for safeguarding our environment for the benefit of our people and our economy.

Your role will include:

  • Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Identifying communication and engagement risks and working with the team to mitigate or manage risks
  • Drafting communications collateral including frequently asked questions, website content, fact sheets, e-newsletter
  • Drafting media releases and social media posts
  • Developing PowerPoint presentations, run sheets and agendas for workshops and drafting summary reports
  • Managing an online stakeholder database and online engagement platform

Required skills

  • Able to develop good working relationships
  • Able to write clearly and concisely in English with good grammar and attention to detail
  • Able to think logically and creatively about how to present information
  • Understands the need for engagement to be inclusive and well-thought out

Desirable skills

  • Fluent in English and Maori
  • Good organisation skills and event management
  • Willing and able to learn how to use simple engagement software
  • Able to occasionally work outside normal working hours for workshops etc.

You must be available to start immediately. You will be expected to work an average of 25 hours per week and be available on request over the next 18 months.

You will be part of the Te Mato Vai and Wastewater Project Management Unit. It is a multi-disciplinary team including both local and New Zealand based staff. Previous experience in a similar project or role would be highly regarded.
